brian and jeannie: was it a yes?

on thursday, may 1, the saint cupcake hotline received a very important request. haley was the one who actually took the call, but when jami and jen heard what was going on, we couldn’t help but blurt out our great ideas. “tell him we’ll deliver them to her!” “i’ll do a singing telelgram!” “one cupcake should say ‘yes’ and one should say ‘no thanks!’” “no, wait. one should say ‘yes’ and the other should say ‘or yes’!” haley shhhed us into a childlike quiet with a frantic arm wave, a furrowed brow and a point to the phone to remind us that we are professionals. what she didn’t hear were our suggestions that continued in a whisper.

when haley was done with the call she let us know what was going on. “ok,” she announced. “this guy is going to propose to his girlfriend with OUR cupcakes!” although we could already tell from her end of the conversation that is what was going down, we couldn’t help but shout again at the cuteness of his gesture.

turns out, brian (the proposer) was going to congratulate jeannie (the proposee) at her school for finishing her last ever final of law school. he brought with him a bouquet of flowers, the box of cupcakes as pictured above (and made by our dear sophia) and a sparkly ring to knock it out of the park. what would have been a really sweet and thoughtful thing to do turned into the most memorable cupcake moment in history when jeannie read those cupcakes and brian forked over the rock.

“who would say no to this guy?” we asked ourselves as haley finalized the paperwork for brian’s order. “who would say no to cupcakes?”
“what about uma thurman?”
“huh?”
“you know that guy that was stalking her? what if he gave uma cupcakes with ‘will you marry me?’ on them? she might say no”
“to red velvets, though?”
“hmmm”

we’ve heard that the night brian gave jeannie the cupcakes, she and her friends partied like it was 1999 at what was supposed to be your run of the mill congratulations/going away party. the party was really her engagement party. yes, friends, it seems that brian’s plan worked. jeannie said yes to undoubtedly a very darling gentleman who is head over cupcakes in love with her.

(awww!)

*a note to brian and jeannie*  thank you so much for sharing your supersweet story with us. we hope you have an amazing wedding (do think of us for your wedding cupcakes. we also do baby showers, first birthdays, and really any life cycle event you can think of) and wish you both the best of luck. may your lives continue to be filled with sweet gestures to one another.

you take the good, you take the bad. you’re mom-like, mrs. g.

edna garrett, we celebrate YOU this mother’s day. you always knew the right thing to squawk; you reached out to pre-teens glued to the tv every week watching as you spit out advice to the girls of eastland school like a magic pez dispenser of wisdom. you conquered it all, mrs. g. body image issues? BLAM!  illiteracy? KAPOW!  pot smoking? POOF! race relations? BOOM! teen runaway prostitution ring? SKIFF! cousin jeri living with a disability? you didn’t even notice….you are good people. just like a mom should be.

anyway, dear reader, she doesn’t have to be your biological mother to let her know you think she’s the bees knees. isn’t there a woman in your life that treated you like her own? then for the love of frosting AT LEAST send her a card. and if you have any kind of relationship with your own mother, she can’t be overlooked, either.

but to REALLY let her know you care, bring her some cupcakes or a saint cupcake gift certificate! order some today or stop by either location on sunday after brunch. and bring mom with you. or bring your mom-like person.

happy mother’s day!

p.s. and saint cupcake would like to give a happy mother’s day shout out to the pregnant man in bend. happy manmother’s day to you, thomas!

teacher appreciation week may 4th-10th

when i was in 4th grade, i went to a store called “green streets” to buy mrs. sontag a little something to let her know she was the best 4th grade teacher in all the world. green streets was the perfect store; it had a wall of sticker spools, stationary, grape smelling pens, stuffed animals, and posters with kittens. even though mrs. sontag smoked cigarettes in class and always ate some kid’s chips out of their lunch box, she cared for her students. and since the lady loved her cup of sanka ALL day long, what better gift than a rainbow and unicorn mug? i wrapped it with rainbow heart wrapping paper and even cut out hearts that linked together to make a really long heart chain. if i had known the flavor explosion of sanka like she did, i’d have wanted a mug like that, too. of course all this was before jami and her grandma invented cupcakes, so there was no saint cupcake. my choices were limited in how to express my gratitude to vivian sontag. afterall, she’s the woman who inspired me to become a veterinarian. except that i never actually did become a veterinarian, but she sure did inspire me! just think where i’d be if i brought her some big tops?

don’t let the same thing happen to you. stop by saint cupcake the week of may 4th-10th and get your favorite educator a special treat. i mean, it’s no unicorn rainbow mug, but it’ll do to let him or her know you care and you may just become an animal doctor because of it.
