hello there Mrs. French

POSTED ON Thursday, October 02, 2008 AT 10:58 by saint cupcake

back when we first opened saint cupcake, i was working in the kitchen a lot. usually about 20 hours (literally) of every day. because of that, i saw every single customer who was nice enough to come try our cupcakes. and then a lot of those customers kept coming back. so, naturally, i discovered i had FAVORITE customers who kept coming back…and Mrs. French is one of them. the first time i saw her she was toting the cutest little baby i had ever laid eyes on. and you could tell that this baby was also the cutest baby Mrs. French had ever laid HER eyes on…never in my life had i seen someone look at someone else the way that Mrs. French looked at her baby. that’s a lot of love. but it gets cuter. i’d look over the counter and see Mrs. French with the tiniest bit of icing on her finger giving the baby a tiny little taste. maybe it’s because i was completely sleep deprived, but i seriously couldn’t imagine anything more heartwarming than watching this woman’s interactions with her son. in fact, i somewhat hold Mrs. French responsible for my becoming pregnant when saint cupcake was only a little over a year old.

ANYWAYS, fast forward a couple of years - and now i have a baby (who won’t eat icing!!) i get a phone call from stephanie at Noun saying that her friend has a friend who needs to take photos of a cute baby room. (because 90% of everything in our baby room came from Noun, it is somewhat cute.) so, i tidy up my house and get all set for this photo taking…and who should knock on my door with her camera in hand? MRS. FRENCH!!! crazy! i know!

it turns out Mrs. French has a superamazing blog about home goods, design and beautiful things - and that she somehow has the ability to take photos of ordinary things and make them look crazy-extraordinary. take, for instance, these photos of our cupcakes. simple chocolate buttercream and cream cheese icings on chocolate. but through Mrs. French’s lens they become so much more, don’t they? we just love Mrs. French. we also love that her amazing work is available here.

POSTED ON Wednesday, October 01, 2008 AT 13:44 by saint cupcake

did you know we got cute new gift certificates? you mean no one’s given you one? well, that’s because in order to receive, you need to give. be a giver.

now you can give our supercute newly designed gift certificates in 3 denominations; the $2.50 (that’s a cupcake or a pair of dots. it lets someone know you think they’re sweet and these are GREAT to have on hand to stick in a birthday card) the $15.00 (six full or 12 dots. says “here, have a great day. i am thoughtful, don’t you think?”) or the $30.00 one (that’s 12 full size or 24 dots. it’s like you’re the dessert sponsor for the certificate recipient’s party. hopefully you get invited).

give the gift of cupcakes. come see us soon, mkay?

let’s hear it for the malt ball, our newest cupcake flavor!  jami and rachel lovingly invented a malted chocolate buttercream to top our rich fudgy chocolate cake with malted milk balls baked right in. oh yeah. and then, as if THAT weren’t malty and bally enough, they crushed a ton more malted milk balls and landscaped the top with melt in your mouth boulders. come by and get yours today! or friday! malt ball is the latest addition to our wednesday & friday menus.

malt balls!

(and let’s give it up for lemon berry. thanks for all your sweet tartiness this summer. see you next year.)

ps! we dedicate our new balls to clay aiken. way to go, clay!

fame: we want to live forevah!

do you watch entourage?i know! i don’t have HBO either, but the best way to watch any series is from netflix. anyway, entourage…i am on disc 3 of season 4 and feel famous from it. really, it’s as close to fame as you can get unless you consider those celebs that we have actually met:

rachel once saw ethel kennedy in baltimore. and she’s also somehow related to the guitar player for avril levine (rachel is, not ethel). i played catch with a pre-silver spoons ricky schroeder on the set of a patty duke astin made-for-tv-steaming-pile-of-a-movie AND i was an extra in a mickey rooney christmas movie when i was in 6th grade. jennifer m. saw sheila e. in LA once and drew carey was at a party she crashed in new orleans. jessica busted backstage at a pavoratti concert and got to meet him. he called her a “beautiful flower.” aw! she also had her picture taken with wayne newton in vegas (she says he smells like musk.) jami has been to so many jimmy buffet shows that it’s LIKE she’s met him. plus she saw john mcenroe at the atlanta airport and had a run in with jesse jackson once. oh, and matt lauer, too, but not together.

everyone swears parker posey DIDN’T come in here but i remember hearing she did. jenna malone was here one time. there have also been some shins, some modest mice, art alexakis and a fistful of blazers AND their dancers that have patronized the saint. and you may remember that tori spelling downloaded our red velvet recipe from the oregonian article and baked them up on her “reality” show tori and dean: inn love. i still have that episode on my tivo. we patiently waited for jennifer aniston to come in when she was in town last summer, but she never showed.

we have a running list of celebs that we’d love to see come in to saint cupcake, so if you happen to be one of them, consider this an open invitation: sting, (but you are summoned upstairs to the office. jennifer maldood is waiting for you), george clooney, johnny depp, willie nelson, david bowie, tina fey, amy poehler, gene and/or richard simmons, gordon gano, sandra lee (we want to talk to you about your “cooking”), thomy orke (not a typo, jami. it just sounds better that way) elvis, meryl streep, huckleberry fox, and jon bon jovi, to name a few.

that’s me with al roker. famous!

ps: hey chuck bass and serena van der woodsen! jami from saint cupcake and stephanie from noun REALLY would REALLY (a lot) like for you to come to saint cupcake. we have so many questions for you. and serena, stephanie wants to wrap herself up in your hair.

pps: JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE! you can bring sexy back to saint cupcake any time you want!
