noun + portland spaces = a so-cute-must-read
POSTED ON Tuesday, March 10, 2009 AT 15:21 by saint cupcake
i subscribe to a ton of magazines. and usually i read all of them. and try out a recipe or three. or maybe drool all over the pages featuring walls of windows and mid-century furniture. my favorite parts of magazines feature real people. recipes sent in from a home cook or a decorating project that seems like something i can do without hiring a spendy professional.
the current issue of Portland Spaces is no exception. ESPECIALLY because there are some really really amazing photos of NOUN’s house. no, not the store, but the actual place where Stephanie & Thomas of NOUN do their daily living. you should pick up a copy. i’m certain you will covet the amazing blue walls, the great use of space and the shots of B., their adorable kitty. (hint: if you like what you see, Stephanie is so totally available to help you at your house! really! now you can have a house that looks like you knew what you were doing when you put it all together!)
anyways, we share our lovely belmont space with two totally with-it designery types. since we can’t be just like them, i guess we’ll have to settle for being near them.
love songs and cupcakes
POSTED ON Friday, February 27, 2009 AT 13:01 by saint cupcake
the tribe has spoken, yo.
and when i say tribe, i mean all the good people of portland who have asked us to provide the service of singing telegrams year-round. for the last two valentine’s days henry curl has dazzled corporate offices and deli counters alike with musical expressions of love and cupcakes. imagine your s.o. at work, on their birthday. you could send flowers, but you really should send henry curl and chris hayes (aka the half-hearted). and cupcakes.
love songs are not just for valentine’s day anymore. starting NOW, you can have cupcakes delivered via singing telegram on wednesdays from 10:30-2pm. check out our special orders page for many more details.
don’t be that heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance. or the dream afraid of waking that never takes a chance, for that matter.

2008 donation tally
POSTED ON Friday, February 20, 2009 AT 17:17 by saint cupcake
did you know saint cupcake donates a lot of cupcakes? we donate lots and lots and lots of cupcakes, as a matter of fact. i’m not trying to toot our own horn, but dang! i just tallied our cupcake donations for the year and was almost afraid to tell jami. and these are not cupcakes that we donate at the end of the day; these are the ones that we baked special for fundraisers, benefits, volunteer recognitions, small celebrations for people in treatment or big fancy gala event dessert dashes. the grand total of these for 2008 came to a whopping $17,471.25.
some of the wonderful organizations that we have had the privilege of working with last year were:
casa for children, inc.
rock n roll camp for girls
new avenues for youth
american cancer society
columbia slough watershed
raphael house
portland transitional school
doernbecher children’s hospital
legacy emanuel children’s hospital
the rebuilding center
PICA
cascade aids project
kinship house
susan b koman foundation
southwest humane society
opb
animal aid
providence camp erin
red cross
dhs child welfare
de paul treatment
dignity village
to name just a few…
ok, so maybe i am tooting our own horn. but i think $17471.25 worth of cupcakes is an amazing amount to give. i’m proud of us. i mean, we are just a small, local business. we clearly have a hard time saying no, but most importantly, we care about the community and it’s most vulnerable citizens. needless to say, jami was not mad, but quite the contrary; she looked like she was going to cry when i told her the amount. not the sad cry, but the proud cry. “REALLY?!” she said. “that is SO nice!” i think so, too.
i encourage you to check out the above links and pick one that you can do something for. volunteer, give something, help out in some way. chances are, even in this economy, if you are reading a cupcake blog, you have it better than most. think about it.
say i do again

did you hear matt and jami on the radio? i only got to hear a couple of minutes of them on the daria & mitch show on 105.1 the buzz before they gave out our phone number and i was on the phone for 2 hours. the adorable daria invited the curl’s to come down and talk about our valentine’s day singing telegrams (matt calls them ‘valograms’. no one else does, though) and gave 4 away to the first four callers. anyway, they were hysterical. matt c. sang a sample love tune; jami talked about her secret monkey folder with all her business ideas and daria, mitch and ted ate cupcakes. then on friday, we brought cupcakes to the ‘say i do again’ event that they put on every year for couples that had a crappy wedding for one reason or another. and once again, matt c. serenaded the couples and anyone listening in on the radio. this time he was accompanied by the guitar stylings of e. chris hayes and the two of them played “and i love her” by the beatles. aww!
chris and matt traveled our fair city and made several surprised recipients blush and/or cry over the valentine’s day holiday with their lovely versions of some of the best love songs ever. it was awesome.
thanks to daria, ted and mitch for helping to get the word out about our valentine’s day services. you guys are super!
