our friends are so cool…

we all have friends that are way cooler than we are, don’t we? or is it just me?
it seems like lately i’ve felt really kinda, well, old. and uncool. and a little bit clunky.
and it doesn’t help that a lot of my friends and acquaintances do really cool things, or look really cool or have really cool stuff - or even think really cool things. at least way cooler than i’m capable of thinking while chasing around a just-turned-two year old who has a new love of diving off furniture.

anyways, we have this one really cool friend. met her at the gym. not only can she deadlift huge amounts of weight, but she’s also an actor. in a real play. richard II, don’t you know. and to make matters even more cool, it’s an all female cast of richard. now, that’s cool. you should go see it. richard II opens on friday. at the ultracool shoebox theater. details available here.

and in other cool news, have you heard of back fence pdx? damn, what a good idea. storytelling! and not just any story, but TRUE stories. that’s the best kind! six people tell their stories to a live audience - all based around one theme. again, so much cooler than i can ever dream of being. AND they have a show coming up on April 22nd. so cool.

as if things couldn’t get any cooler, the back fence pdx ladies are cooking up something extra special for moms (and the people who love them) in may -  Word To Your Mother - a live storytelling event featuring performers from back fence, mortified and others!! details available here. and the really cool part about this event is that saint cupcake has been invited! hear stories AND eat cupcakes…just like mom would. right? well, at least some moms.

and the final really cool thing of the day - we’re thinking about having all of our meetings while pedaling. how cool is that? so cool.

surprise! this sunday is easter! no kidding!

the cupcakes will be wearing their finest easter decorations on both saturday AND sunday this weekend - don’t miss our adorable toasted coconut cream bird’s nests. almost too cute to eat. note i said *almost.*

stolen microwaves! dang it!

seriously, the weirdest things happen here.

on wednesday afternoon, some microwave bandits walked away with 2 of our building’s little humming ovens. we have our offices upstairs from the bakery and just down the hall is a kitchen. it has a fridge with things in it from tenants past; there is a questionable vat of salsa from lord knows when, a carton of soup that expired 2 years before we got our new president and a half of a bottle of astsi spumanti. needless to say, we don’t use the fridge.

but anyway the microwaves were essential to us here in the office of celebration and events at saint cupcake. rachel and i use them to heat our balls. lean cuisine swedish meatballs, that is. (if you’ve never had them, you should. one time, i got 8 balls in one lunch! that was the meatball lottery!) while jami uses the microwave less often, if ever (she calls it a “popcorn popper”) the rest of us frequently “cook” in it. we just can’t figure out how someone 50 feet away could haul off 2 microwave ovens. and more than the how, we’re left wondering why.

this sunday, theo curl turns 2! just like last year, only he’ll be 2! like i just said!

i have a lot of enthusiasm for exciting things. i’m pretty sure i was born with this quality. it wasn’t something i learned - i think i’m just the type to be so enthusiastic about things that it can border on obsession. like, i get so excited that i just can’t hide it.

take, for example, high school. i was a complete fool for my school. school spirit oozing from my pores. don’t believe me? check out this photo. yeah, that’s me in the eagle costume. no fooling.

i’m also enthusiastic about bacon, radiohead, baked goods, gym classes, wallpaper and theo curl’s curls...just to name a few.

for over a year now i have been superenthusiastic about figuring out how to send cupcakes to cupcake fans across this great country of ours. and, it is with terrific enthusiasm that i tell you today, we have figured it out! our online shop is open!

of course, saint cupcake didn’t arrive at this point quickly or easily. first, it took lots of testing and tasting and thinking and waiting. then it took some amazing photographs. then it took a completely sweet online shop (thanks, needmore!) then some special packaging. then a mail room. then a group of employees who are skilled in the art of cupcake shipping. all of this (and a lot more!) went in to helping saint cupcake take flight.

and now, we’re ready. we’re ready to send you cupcakes.

i’m so excited. i feel like cheering. (!!!)
